Captive Movie Review and Giveaway! (Ends Jan 26th)

I was asked by Propeller/FlyBy Promotions to review a movie for them and to also give the movie away to one lucky reader of my blog!  The movie is called Captive and stars Kate Mara (love her!) and David Oyelowo (Golden Globe Nominee).

About the movie:

Based on a miraculous story about the power of faith, Captive is an "amazing, inspiring" drama about the spiritual collision of two lost souls, Brian Nichols (Golden Globe Nominee David Oyelowo), on the run from police and desperate to make contact with his newborn son, takes recently widowed mother Ashley Smith (Kate Mara) hostage in her own apartment.  Fearing for her life and desperately hoping to see her daughter again, she turns to Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life for guidance.  Ashley and her captor face a crossroads where they discover hope and light in the midst of despair in the moving film that Dick Rolfe, CEO, Dove Foundation hailed as "powerful."

DVD Release Date: January 5, 2016
Runtime: 96 minutes
Rating: PG-13 (for mature thematic elements involving violence and substance abuse)

There are over 30 minutes of bonus content on this DVD including Journey Through Darkness: Filming Captive and Faith and The Purpose Driven Life.  Also included with this DVD is a Digital HD copy that can be instantly streamed and downloaded.

My Thoughts:  This story is based on a true story and I love movies like that.  I had no clue what this movie was about before I watched it.  It was very well made and the acting was great.  I can't get enough of Kate Mara.  It started off with Kate Mara (as Ashley) being a recovering drug addict.  Unfortunately, in this day and age, it is so common to know someone like that.  You see all the reality drug shows and you see how it affects people and our nation (not to mention the world).  I knew a guy who was a recovering alcoholic (and whose brother was as well) and so I could somewhat relate to the world she was in.  She just couldn't get it together and it is sad.  But it is reality for so many people.  There is a darkness there.  And the other character, Brian Nichols, is in the darkness as well.  He goes on a violent crime spree which was hard to watch at times but it is reality and it is happening all over the United States.  And these two people somehow end up saving each other in the end.

I do feel like the characters' life stories weren't touched upon enough for me to really feel empathy or sympathy for either of them.  I wish they would have emphasized it more.  So if you watch the movie, pay attention when they talk about the characters' pasts - things that might have brought them to where they are today.  Another thing, when the character Ashley doesn't do something (won't give it away), I didn't really understand it until I watched the 'Extras' on the DVD so I recommend you watch the 'Extras' for a deeper connection to the story.  Also, I would have liked if they would have delved more into the book than they did or even bring up God more.

Having said that, the movie is well made, the acting is great, and the movie is based on a true story. I definitely recommend watching it.

And now...time for the Giveaway!  One person will win a copy of Captive!

1 Week Till Closing!

That was back in December with my friend Kelli at my new house I'm buying.  I close on the 27th (so in one week) if everything else goes smoothly.

The process hasn't been too bad - seems to have gone a lot easier than the last house I bought.  This is a new house and you're basically dealing with a builder so they know the ropes.  The mortgage process is easier as well because you can sign everything electronically.

So basically my mortgage was approved a couple weeks ago so they moved up the closing a week and half.  Which is fine - I don't care when I close because my lease isn't up for a few more months.

I just had the inspection yesterday and the guy sent me the results less than 24 hours later - right before I had the walk through with the builder this morning.  So I was able to know what to tell the builder to fix or look at when I went there.  Nothing major - just a few questions and some touchups of paint.

Here is the SOLD sign at my property I took today:

So the builder was nice and explained how to turn the water on/off and how the breakers worked, etc.  Then we walked the whole house (inside and outside) and marked areas to be fixed by closing.  Easy peasy.

Then on the closing day, I walk through again with the builder and my realtor then we go to closing.  Oh and I just found out my appraisal came in low and probably because it is an FHA loan, the sales price couldn't be higher than that appraisal.  So that knocked almost $5k off my price!  Yay!  So that is really great.

After closing, the next day (pending HOA approval) I'll be getting a fence installed.  White 6 foot vinyl on the sides and black 4 foot aluminum on the back (because I have a pond view).  You guys, I have got to tell you, my backyard pond view is AMAZING.  I know I currently live at the beach right now but if there were a 2nd best view, this might be it.  It is SO peaceful.  I did good!

Anyways, then after the fence, I'm going to get a new electric line installed for a hot tub and then put in a patio slab.  Then shop for a hot tub.  This is what I envision:

LOL!  Just kidding - well, maybe for New Years Eve, right? haha.

Relationship Communication Tips (Good Stuff!)

Dear 2016 Me ~ #BehindTheBlogger

Dear 2016 Me,

Remember how you started last year?  You had NO idea how many adventures you'd go on but wow!  Did you ever!  And you had NO idea how many people you would meet and call friends and family but wow!  Did you ever!  Let's make 2016 an even bigger year for adventures and more friends/family and to get even closer to the ones you have now.

Case in point - you have two things already going on this year that will help make that happen.

First thing you're doing this year, is buying a house!  You are closing on it on the 27th of January.  And you will be living right next door to your good friend and her family.  Pretty amazing.

My house!  Brand new!

 Me at my front door.

Me at the edge of my property line in the back.  What a view!

Then in June - you have a trip planned with your friend from Ohio (and her family) to travel from your house (Northeast Florida) all the way down to the Keys - stopping at Cocoa Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami on the way.  And then possibly hitting up the Everglades on your way back.  Super, fun adventure!

Who knows what else is in store but 2016 is already starting to sound like a blast!

My First #StitchFix!

So a few weeks ago, I won a $100 credit from a blog towards a fix from Stitch Fix!  I've been reading so many blogs for quite a while now who get these Stitch Fixes and always wanted to do it.  But I've always been hesitant because the items were so pricey.

So the win helped push me to the point of ordering my first fix!  Basically, a stylist picks out some items for you to try and possibly buy.  If you don't like them, you send them back no charge.  You fill out a style profile on their website and you can also provide them with a Pinterest board so they can get an idea of what your style is.  Looking back now, I wish I would have told them what things I didn't want in my fix but now they know (you fill out comments on what you did or didn't like about each item you received).

So here we go!

Collective Concepts Printed Knit Back Top in Blue and White ($58) - Returned.
It was completely see thru in the front and then a jersey type material in the back.  It is something one of my close friends would wear and she's fashionable so I think it is cute not to mention super comfortable.  I'm not sure it was very flattering on me although it did look nice under the cardigan I got.  I'm not usually a fan of things that are see thru where you need to wear something else underneath.  Annoys me!  I almost kept it (and everything else in this fix) because it is wearable and fashionable but for reasons I talk about later, I returned it.

(Top is mentioned above)
41Hawthorn Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan in Burnt Orange ($48) - Kept
Level 99 Jessa Wide Leg Denim Trouser ($118) - Kept

LOVE LOVE LOVE both of these pieces.  I must mention that everything fit perfectly which I found to be a miracle.  The cardigan was such a lovely color - love burnt orange.  I'm actually not a fan of cardigans because I think they make me look like I weigh more than I do but this one was so perfect.  Skimmed my body perfectly, was so long (perfect length), fit great, and just was comfy.  It will go with so many things I already have.

The jeans were magnificent!  They fit perfectly and I'm super short and they skimmed the ground at the perfect length - which is hard for me to find.  Most petite jeans I find are like 'mom jeans' but these were petite AND fashionable.  Score!  I don't care they cost $118...they were totally worth it.  I'm pretty sure I'd buy both these pieces regardless if I had the credit or not.  Being a curvy short girl, it is so hard to find stuff that fits.  The jeans were wide leg - but like a boho kind of wide leg which is totally my style!

Moda Luxe Palermo Stitch Detail Clutch in Tan ($38) - Returned

I have to admit - I am not a fan of clutches.  I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached so a clutch is not a good idea for me.  It did come with a strap you could attach but it was gold chain.  Another thing I don't care for, gold anything (for the most part) so that was a bummer.  The clutch was cute especially with the polka dots but it is just not for me.

Laila Jayde Keene Knit Top in Black ($48) - Returned

This top I actually wanted to keep.  I'm not sure if you can tell in the pics but it is boxy and it was long.  But that is great because it would hide my rolls.  This is perfect casual wear.

So my dilemma was - I was going to get the jeans and cardigan no matter what.  So after the credit, that was $66.  I was on the fence with the black top and decided if I was going to get that - I might as well get them all but that would be $132 total.  I would give away the clutch to charity.  Then I saw that the black top was hand wash only and the blue/white top was dry clean only - that made my decision.  I'm a throw it in the wash and forget it sort of person so I can't have anything like that!   Especially the dry clean one.  So I kept the cardigan and jeans.  Love them both.

So overall, my stylist did a great job for sure especially being the first time!  I'd definitely recommend this service but be prepared for the prices!
