Q & As - Beauty

Saw this on Harrietjacksonx and thought I'd take this survey myself.

1. What is your favorite eye shadow color to wear?

2. What's the one product you wouldn't leave the house without?

3. What's your favorite makeup look?
Smoky eyes

4. What feature do you play up the most? 
Eyes most definitely.  Cheekbones next. 

5. What feature do you downplay/cover up the most?
Undereye circles.  They are pretty bad and pretty darn permanent.

6. Your favorite makeup brand, if you could only pick ONE to exist?

I tend to buy a lot of Maybelline.  Next would be Covergirl.

7. What product have you re-purchased again and again?
Foundation and concealer.

8. One beauty treatment you would pay to have done?

Something that shrinks the pores.  I would like to do Botox but it scares the crap outta me.

9. One beauty trick you can share with everyone?
Take bronzer and put it in the hollows underneath your cheekbones.

10. Best advice you've ever been given regarding beauty and makeup?
I don't give advice on this ever so I'll go with #9 for now.

P90X3 - Week 4 So Far

I'm on Week 4 of P90X3.  This is my 'recovery' week but I have to say - it is in no way a recovery!  I'm doing the Mass schedule - which is mainly to tone up.  I don't need cardio.  But this week, they have thrown in a few cardio workouts so it has not been fun!  Today was Pilates and I was happy about that.

Also, got one of my wins in the mail today so my nails can look pretty.

Also, probably most of you don't know how I eat but I normally eat very low carb (VLC) (since 2010).  I decided Saturday to go full on with zero carb - just meat and water (coffee and tea too with nothing in them).  I already lost a pant size since then!  Crazy.  I'll blog more about it in the future but just wanted to make you all aware how I eat.

Week 2 So Far - P90X3

Just had to show you guys my arm on day 9 of P90X3! 


 Not bad after 9 days considering I had nothing before.  81 more days to go!  (Well actually 80 after doing Yoga just now).

Monday I did Total Synergistics which is mostly arms so I liked that.  I actually was doing man pushups instead of girly ones like last week.  I’ve gotten so much stronger in just a week.  Tuesday was Agility X which I completely hated the whole dang time.  Not a fan of cardio or moves where you have to have coordination so it was a hot mess. 

Today was Yoga.  Last time I hated the first 20 minutes and loved the last 10 minutes.  Well, this time was somewhat different because I didn't spend the whole 30 minutes figuring out what they're doing (because they go to warrior 1 then 2 then 3 etc real fast).  And I was definitely able to do the moves better.  I'm not perfect by any means but there was progress!

Salomon Sense Mantra Trail Running Shoes Review

I got the opportunity to try some trail running shoes from Salomon.

Per their website, these shoes are lightweight and designed for:
  • Natural motion
  • Training/racing
They are a lightweight training shoe for forefoot and midfoot strikers who want natural motion, protection and neutral cushioning for high mileage training.

Since I love trail running, I was excited to try them out!  Here are a few pictures I took of them before/after my runs.

The first thing you will notice about these shoes is they don't have typical shoe laces.  You just pull it tight and then tuck the extra lace in the tongue.  So no worries about your shoe laces coming undone and tripping over them. 

The trail I run on in Omaha right now is mostly gravel where you definitely need a shoe that grips well or else you'll be crashing and burning.  As you can tell from the picture below, these shoes have strong grips and did well every time I ran that trail. 

Also, an added bonus, for me at least, was the color of the shoe.  I'm all about fashion even with running shoes.  These matched most of my running clothes (black and gray mostly with some pink thrown in) AND they matched my normal clothes I weight (black/gray mostly).  So I was able to wear them not only trail running but just as part of my normal outfit.  Below is a picture of them with jeans I wore to work.  So comfy, too.

So overall, I really liked these shoes - functional and fashionable.  A+ in my book.  If you are concerned about fit, they have a size guide right on their website.

Days 5 and 6 - P90X3 Pilates and Incinerator

I have to say - I love love LOVE Pilates!  Especially the first 15 minutes.  Most of the time you're working your core so that was cool.  Can't wait to do it again!

Today was Incinerator.  I had no clue what that meant.

Turns out it is just a lot of arm workouts.  Using weights, pushups, and pullups.  I actually did one real 'man' pushup which made me proud.  I've come so far in 6 days.  LOL! 

Tomorrow is either a rest day or Dynamix.  I'll take the rest day, please.  LOL  I need it!

Next week will be the same as this week so I probably won't be posting much about P90X3 until I get to a new workout.  Cheers!

Day 4 - P90X3 The Challenge

Today was The Challenge.  Basically, you choose how many pushups/pullups you want to do each time.

I chose 5 and 10.  I did not do pullups and instead just mimicked the pullups they were doing with weights.

So we would rotate pushups then pullups. 

I have to admit, my arms are very weak.  So I did girly pushups as shown below (not me).

I would do 5 but at the end was what they called a burnout (do 1 pullup and 3 pushups constantly for 2 1/2 minutes).  My arms were shot at this point and I could no longer do any pushups!  I did continue with the weights tho.

Pretty simple workout only because I could only do a few of each while Tony and his team were doing like 40 each!  Hopefully, I can get stronger and start doing more. 

Tomorrow is Pilates!  Can't wait.  Love Pilates.

Days 2 & 3 P90X3 Agility X and Yoga X

Sorry, I'm a day behind on chatting about P90X3.  Yesterday I did Agility and today I did Yoga.


No, that is not me.  And no, that is not one of the moves but some of them were nutso like that. 

Agility was not good.  I did not like it at all.  If you like to do moving push ups - then Agility is your workout.  I hate cardio with a passion.  So I hated every minute of it.  But I got it done.

Yoga was okay.  I hated the first 20 minutes.  I just get so dang bored!  Plus I can't really do the moves.  The last 10 minutes were balancing moves and relaxing moves and I actually enjoyed those 10 minutes!  I wasn't bored a bit. 

Tomorrow is The Challenge, whatever that is.  I'm sure is cardio again, argh!  lol

Would You Rather Running Style Survey

I found this survey on Happy Fit Mama Blog and thought I'd take it.

#1. Would you rather run in a thunderstorm or a snowstorm?
I've ran in a thunderstorm but not a snowstorm.  The thunderstorm was the scariest experience ever.  First of all, I'm deathly afraid of lightning and second, I was basically way out on this trail (5 miles from my car) out in the open (no real shelter) when it started.  Scariest running experience for sure.  However, I would totally choose it over a snowstorm because the cold is just the worst!!!

#2. Would you rather breathe through your nose or breathe through your mouth?
For me, I'd rather breathe through my nose but my nose is constantly stuffed up so it is hard to do that.  But I find breathing thru my nose is just better for me as a runner.

#3. Would you rather do 100 squats or 100 crunches? [Now take a break and go do them. ;)]
Definitely the 100 crunches!  I hate squats with a passion.  Unless they are squat rockers, which I love.  I talk about them HERE.

#4. Would you rather have a baked good for dessert or an extra serving of your favorite entree?
If I had the perfect body naturally, I'd go for the dessert.  But if I'm being good to my body, I'll take the entrĂ©e (filet minion please). 

#5. Would you rather run on a treadmill for an hour or run around the same street block for an hour?
Same street block.  I can't stand the treadmill.  Bores me to tears.
#6. Would you rather have a headache during a run or a side stitch?
Headache definitely.  Hate side stitches.  They ruin my momentum.
#7. Would you rather have a rest day on a work day or a day off?
Day off. 
#8. Would you rather be a race director or a race volunteer?
Probably a volunteer even tho I've never had a good experience as a race volunteer.  But I definitely wouldn't want the whole race on my shoulders being a race director.
#9. Would you rather spend your money on running gadgets [HRM, GPS watch, Headphones] or running shoes?
Gadgets.  I always need a new gadget.  Running shoes, for some reason, I think I can run them into the ground.  I think that 500 miles and they're done with mantra is just to sell more shoes.  But that is just me.
#10. Would you rather run in a relay or do the run portion of a distance triathlon?
Probably a relay.  Not a fan of triathlons.

Day 1 - P90X3 - Total Synergistics

So today was the first day of my 90 day P90X3 journey.  Here I am about to begin! 

Today's workout is called Total Synergistics. Basically working your core/arms/legs using weights or your own body weight.  There is also a 3 minute warm up.  Would you believe that the warm up wore me out?!!!  I'm totally out of shape for sure. 

I could go out right now and run many miles with no problem I guess because I've been doing it for so many years.  It is just natural to me now.  This, however, is not.  Far from it. 

I wasn't good at most of the moves.  I did like the moves called the plow, glamour hammer, and squat rockers.  The plow is where you are laying on ground flat and then you move your lower body over your head - working the lower back.  Glamour hammer is where you lift one leg and do bicep curls from the front and sides.  Squat rockers are AWESOME!  I normally hate squats with a passion.  But these are somewhat different.  You take a weight and hold it with both hands.  Then you crouch down and go on your toes then rock back to being on your heels.  Works the gluteus maximus right where I need it! 

At the end of the workout, Tony surprised me with a little bit of crazy yoga - where I ended up falling backwards on my tush.  Hilarious!  Good thing there wasn't a video camera around.

So begins my journey.  89 days left.

Starting P90X3 Tomorrow!

So I recently bought P90X3.  Me and some others are going to start it tomorrow.  For 90 days. 

I've done P90X years ago so I'm pretty familiar with the format.  But I was never a fan of working out for an hour.  P90X3 is 30 minute workouts so that is what attracted me to it. 

I'm doing the Mass schedule shown below:

Most people choose the Classic schedule since they want to lose weight.  But I just want to tone up - get some abs and guns.  I already control my weight thru eating so no need for cardio and so this is perfect. 

I want abs like this girl!
