Crazy Omaha Weather

So yesterday we had some crazy swings of temps:

Unreal!

Friday was pretty nice also so I decided to go out for a nice 1.5 mile trail run.

The lake was actually solid still so people were out there ice fishing.

Got my Salomon trail shoes?  Check.

Got my thumbholes?  Check.

Got my Sparklysoul headband?  Check.

Got my after the run treat (i.e. Starbucks)?  Check.

Well, have a nice rest of the weekend, folks.  I have 3 more days of vacation before I have to get back to reality.

13 Things To Ask Yourself Before the End of 2013 Linkup

I'm linking up with The Lady Okie blog today for

Before I get to it, I have to admit to you guys that 2013 was one of the crappiest years yet.  According to a tarot card reader (Angel Souls), 2014 will be much better.  But we'll see.  I'm always a hopeful person, that is for sure.

1.  What am I most proud of this year?

Few things:
-  Realizing what my true purpose is in life or at least the environment I strive to be in even though the universe isn't letting me get there just yet.
- Surviving a year (and then some) at my current job.
- Selling my house even though it was at a significant loss which has put a significant strain on me.

2. How can I become a better ________?

Social person.  The environment I have been in the last few years has created the situations where I am more comfortable being at home and with myself.  I know this isn't the best thing in the world but due to the current stressors in my life, this is absolutely essential to me not going nutso! lol  I hope that if my environment changes in the future, I will become much more engaged socially.

3. Where do I need to allow myself grace?

Definitely at work where it is impossible to be the best I can be even though I want to be perfect with my career.  And definitely with my eating habits and how I view my body.

4. Am I passionate about my career?
I was not this year but I did used to be.  When no one at work cares one way or another how good you are or what you are accomplishing, it makes you not care either.  Career is no longer important to me.  Sad in a way but it is empowering me to live the life I really need to be living and to stop focusing on money, money, money.

5. What did my finances look like?

Pretty bad, I must admit.  I can keep up with my finances but it is like I'm paying off a luxury car with nothing to show for it due to the deep debt from the loss on my house.  But I know that, pending some unexpected financial expense, that should be paid off in 4 1/2 years.  Or maybe I can win me the 2014 HGTV Dream Home and take the cash alternative and life will be even better!

2013 HGTV Dream Home
6. How did I spend my free time?

Due to a highly stressful day environment, I like to come home and zone out in front of the television.  Some of my favorite shows nowadays are The First 48 and Mob Wives.
The First 48

 Mob Wives - Team Drita!
Team Drita all the way!  Love that cat.  I also like to enter sweepstakes when I'm not watching a little tv.

7. What projects have I completed?

I'm not quite sure what this question is asking.  I put up my Christmas tree. haha.  I bought a sewing machine and was going to attempt to sew my own clothes but that never happened.  That lady at Joann Fabrics didn't help with my self esteem of learning how to sew.  Like who tells someone you'll never be able to sew in so many words who works for them?  Yeah, I encounter all kinds of ridiculous souls in my life.

8. In what ways can I restructure my time?

Not sure if this question is even relevant to me.  I go to work and then I come home.  No need for me to restructure my time really.  One thing I did change in 2013 was to get my mornings better situated so I'm not rushing so much.  Normally, I hit the snooze a 100 times before getting up and rushing.  Now, I hit the snooze max 2 times, get up and make myself sip a cup of coffee for 10 minutes while reading texts.  It is my 'zen' time of the day and then I get ready.  By making myself have that time at that exact time, I give myself time to get ready afterwards.

9. When have I felt the most alive?

Couple times this year - when I was outside running and when I drove on a long trip - even though it was the trip from hell and I got shorted the money I should have been paid.  Being outside is just when I'm in my element.  And I love driving to a destination - I see new places and I love looking at the scenery and I love jammin' to tunes!

10. How can I improve my relationships?

By moving closer to my friends and stop being such a homebody.

11. What lessons have I learned in 2013?

Money and ambitions will lead you to the wrong places in life.  Where you feel joy most in your life is where you should be.

12. What old habits would I like to release?

Ice cream.  The end.

13. What new habits would I like to cultivate?

- P90X3 or Weight lifting/Ab exercises.  From diet, I am able to get to a decent weight.  However, I would love to have 6 pack abs and guns.
- Keep up with my household chores.
- Blogging more.

A Few Christmas Bitstrips by Jovan

As promised yesterday in my blog post, I am posting some of my latest Christmas Bitstrips.  But first, I have to post a throwback to one of my Christmas's in the past - circa 1981 I think.  I was 4 and those are my bros:

Now on to the Bitstrips!  Merry Christmas, everyone!

Oh and this isn't a Bitstrip but I think it is hilarious.  I know I was that little baby kitten when I was a kid.

And that's all folks!

It's a Wonderful Life

Just got done watching this movie.  This is absolutely by far my favorite Christmas movie.  Just has a great message.  I think we tend to forget that we do make our marks in the world and don't even realize it.  And we shouldn't forget that.

I don't usually cry at the end of this movie but for some reason this time I did.  When all those family and friends came together for him, it was amazing.  Who knew he had so many people that would have his back.
it's a wonderful life
And this is the best saying in the world and the absolute truth:

It's A Wonderful Life
I want that someday in my future - to have that many people around me at Christmastime.  Just enjoying each other's company.  Just would be awesome.

I almost feel like the movie gave a different meaning to me this year since I'm going through some pretty rough stuff - kind of the way George was going through stuff.  You want to give up but you don't - or you get an angel that convinces you to not give up.  And just around the corner, is the Joy you've been waiting for.  Angel cards say Joy is coming my way...just gotta get through these dark days.

Merry Christmas, folks.  I hope you are all surrounded by many friends and family.

Target Data Breach

What can I say - I love me some Target.  In fact, this is my moto:

Go to Target

Unfortunately, you've probably heard there was a data breach of 40 million credit/debit cards at Target between the dates November 27th through December 15th.  And guess what?  I go there at least twice a week - and in fact, went there on November 27th and the last day I went there was December 12th.

I know a lot of people probably aren't worried because heck, I wouldn't be - I'd just blow it off.  Until I realized my card was compromised!  In fact, the first charge appeared on December 10th but due to me traveling and me blowing off the 'fraud alert' voicemail from my credit card fraud department, I didn't even realize it until I checked my account on the morning of the 17th.  (By the way, I had my actual credit card - they must have gotten my info from the Target breach?)

What ended up happening was I had hardly any credit left on that card (due to my own shopping habits lol), so the thieves were only able to get through a charge of $39.71 at a Rite Aid store in Maryland (I am from Omaha, NE and was at Huntsville, AL at the time).  So yeah, impossible.  I actually called, cancelled my card, and got refunded for the $39.71.  I also called the fraud line and the guy said there were so many charges, he couldn't even read them all back to me.  In fact, the list was so long, he couldn't see them all on one screen!

He did say there was the Rite Aid one, $670 at a online sneaker store, $25 for pizza in Cali, a $230 charge somewhere else, etc.  They were all declined (except Rite Aid) due to my credit limit already being reached thank goodness.

So I cancelled that one and I checked and realized I used another credit card AND my debit card at Target within that time period.  So I cancelled my debit card - wasn't going to risk it.  And I'm going to cancel my other credit card.

But what a pain!  I had some automatic payments set up with those cards and now I have to go through the process of changing that stuff.  It is just a big inconvenience.  And to think about 40 million credit/debit cards - not all of those people are going to pay attention or get fraud alerts.  It is scary!

And to those thieves out there - GET A JOB!!!!!  Use your data breach skills for good instead of evil.

I did google yesterday and people are trying to get a class action lawsuit together.  I also heard today that Chase is limiting all of their credit cards affected by the breach to charges of $300 a day and $100 for withdrawals.  I get it - they're just protecting themselves.  Because if it happened to me, it can happen to plenty more people.  In fact, the day I found out about my card being compromised, my co-worker said his friend had his debit number taken and used in Georgia for pizza.  Sounds like the same thieves as mine!

So my advice is to be aware, check your accounts, pay attention to any fraud alert calls, and realize that it CAN happen to you.

Same Kind of Different As Me Giveaway! (Ends Oct 21st)
