The Crazy Bug has bit me again! Might run an ULTRA - 50k

Backstory:  I started running races in October 2007.  Since that time I've ran 3 marathons and countless other less mileage races.  In November of last year, I was so fed up with running that I basically did not run or workout for 7 months.

Which brings me to today.  I decided (after writing THIS post and some soul searching) that I could not pass up the Air Force Marathon this year.  It is just an awesome party!  So I signed up.  I thought to myself that this would be the only race I would run.  WRONG.

I saw a 5k race in my old neighborhood where I grew up!  It is the first year for it and of course I can't pass it up!  And its for (an animal charity) so I'm running on familiar grounds and supporting a good cause.  If you would like to donate, you can click on the banner right here ------>

So anyways, I signed up for it today.  Also, today I decided to run on a 3 mile trail because of the heat (nice and shady).  It was still super duper hot but it was totally more interesting than my normal bike trail I run on.  I get SO bored on that trail.  Music helps but its still quite boring.  The trail mixes things up.  I absolutely loved running on it today.  So that got me thinking - why not sign up for a trail half marathon?

I did one back in the day - like 2009?  It was Dances With Dirt Half Marathon trail race.  It was in Wisconsin.  Here are a few pictures:

Starting out

This was probably midway through

These pictures we took afterwards - we actually ran a lot in those hills.

Jen, Francis, and I after the race

Me, Jen, Francis, and Rod (who ran the FULL trail marathon) at the finish line

I tell you what.  That was the hardest race but the funnest race EVER!  So not could get lost at the drop of a hat or fall off the edge of a cliff.  Thankfully, I didn't do either but almost wiped out a few times on some rocks and I was nervous there were bears out there (there weren't).  I had SO much fun.  So why not do it again?  So I went ahead and signed up!  I'm going to do it all by myself this time.  I got this.

Dances with Dirt also has a race in Hell, Michigan.  Its only 4 hours away so its incredibly convenient.  It is a week after the Air Force Marathon.  Unfortunately, the smallest race they have is a 50k!!!!!  So that is like 31 miles.  I've never run that much ever.  But if I'm training for a marathon the week before, its only 5 more miles.  Big woop.  Right?  Bwhahahaha I guess we'll find out!  I'm definitely thinking about it.  I think it would be so much fun!  I am going to wait and see how the Wisconsin race is before I sign up for the Ultra but I'm seriously considering it.

Guess I better get some trail shoes!  Anyone have any suggestions?

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Hope everyone is having a fun and relaxing weekend.  This post is a hodge podge of random stuff.

First, I wanted to start out with showing you guys my new scarves.  I think between reading blogs and pinterest, I have become obsessed with scarves even though I have NO idea on how to really wear them.  I bought this first one yesterday at Krogers to go along with this holiday weekend (and 4th of July when it comes around) and the next scarf I'm showing you is one I won from a blog.

I'm totally rocking this scarf!  Don't mind the 'no makeup' look hahaha  Only $4.99 at Krogers.

This scarf I won from a blog and the scarf is from Scarves Dot Net.  I believe it was $11.99.  Not a bad price.  Now I just gotta learn how to wear it correctly.  :)
So what is everyone doing this Memorial Day Weekend?  I'm mostly just getting my house in order.  But yesterday I was invited to a Mary Kay party held by my good friend Kelly (Houtz House Party Blog).  Her friend Amber was the consultant giving us the scoop on some Mary Kay products.  It was SO great to see Kelly again and I miss her so much!  So anyways, we learned some stuff about skin and even eye mites!  Gross!  haha!  She talked about some of the perks of being a Mary Kay consultant including getting a PINK Cadillac.  I sure would love a Cadillac again lol!  But nah, I definitely don't have the personality for it (in my opinion) but I'm sure its a great opportunity for others.  So I ended up buying some stuff I really liked:  moisturizer (I always am searching for a great moisturizer), waterproof mascara, and lip mask and balm shown below:

Would you like to try their products?  You can go to this website and order HERE.

Before I left, I had to get a picture of me and my girl, Kelly.  Miss her soo much!!!

Had to get a full body picture to show off my shoes I LOVE!  Got those at Kohls.  Only $22.99 with 30% off coupon.  GORGEOUS!  And they're flats so they are ultra comfy.  Also, Kelly is wearing the Old Navy shorts she got free!

I am a part of Crowdtap which is a site where you do quick surveys and also you can be a part of campaigns for free stuff, like these shorts!  They sent me coupons - one for me and one for a friend to use for a FREE pair of shorts.  That ROCKS!  I actually went there and bought 3 pair of shorts.  haha!  I couldn't help myself.  Here are the ones I got free:

Mine are the same as Kelly's except hers are pink/beige and mine are navy blue/green/purple.  Want to sign up to be a part of Crowdtap?  Sign up HERE.

So I had to drive in the country to get to and from Kelly's party.  Absolutely LOVE it.  Reminds me of being a kid in Kentucky.

This is me (age 3?) in Kentucky when we lived in the country.  Happy HAPPY times.

I always want to be in the atmosphere of happy times so driving through the country really pulls me back in.  I have decided that if I'm still in Dayton in the future and I get a promotion and save money, I will live in the country in the northern counties of the county I live in.  I don't care if I have to drive 45 minutes to work.  Just driving on country roads relaxes me.

Check out what I had to pass on my way home.  AWESOME! LOL  Its the little things in life, eh?

Before I got I also wanted to mention a big giveaway I'm a apart of coming up on Wednesday May 30th.  You can win a $100 Amazon GC, $50 Victoria's Secret GC, AND a $50 Target/Walmart GC!  That would be a huge win for someone!  So be on the lookout!

Happy Memorial Day!

Oh, how I've missed you, GNATS!

This post is an ode to all the quirks of being a runner.  All the things that normal people don't realize us runners go through at times.  This is not all inclusive because my brain is quite forgetful so there may be sequels to this post.  :)

So I've been on a running hiatus for 7 months.  Thought I was retired but I was wrong about that.  So yesterday I began my marathon training and realized how much I forgotten about little quirks that had to do with running.

Today I ran smack dab into the one I hate the most.  GNATS!

And for whatever reason, while you're running you normally don't see them.  So all of a sudden they're in your face, eyes, ears, hair, body, and worse yet - if you're breathing with your mouth open - your mouth!  Yes, that would be me.  It is even worse when its really hot outside because you slam into them and their dead bodies are stuck all over your sweaty body.  You like a freakin' car with bug guts everywhere!

Anyway, the next thing are bumble bees.  I don't encounter these suckers a lot but when I do - they tend to be massive beasts like this:

buzzy. This little bee looks like a miniature bumble bee. Often seen on flowers in the garden, and are very friendly. Will not bite unless pinched.

The next thing I was thinking about was how I wave to other runners on the course.

I guess its a law to do that?  I have no idea.  I don't know how I even picked it up.  Don't remember.  But I tend to wave at all the runners unless they have their heads down, look pissed off, or are a female/male couple where the male is a hottie.  LOL!

Ok, to explain the couple thing - I've had some evil glares from some women when I used to do it.  Dang, just tryin' to be friendly!  I'm hopelessly single so I have NO idea what the women are thinking.  Although I did talk to a co-worker of mine and she confirmed my observations that women don't like it.   OMG sorry for being friendly.  haha

I don't really wave at anyone else (bikers, walkers, roller bladers).  Bikers are in their own zone most of the time although sometimes I will say hi in passing and vice versa.  Walkers are the most pissed off people I've ever seen hahaha!  At least that is my observation..don't get me wrong some are nice but most  have sour faces.  And then the roller bladers are off in outer space.  haha!  Wild bunches of individuals out there that's for sure.

And now we have the bathroom discussion.  To go during a race or not to go?

Should you pass it by and hope you can hold it the whole time?

Or are you about to burst that seeing a porta potty is like seeing it at the end of a rainbow?

Any race less than a marathon, I do not go.  I hold it.  My first marathon I was a complete nut and held it THE ENTIRE TIME and then some.  Seriously, I was about to burst around the 15th mile but I didn't want to stop running.  It hurt so bad.  Funny how after I finished the marathon I didn't feel like I had to go anymore.  I did not go until I got home probably an hour or so after the race.  Weird.  The next two marathons I went twice.  Oh and just a disclaimer, I'm talking about #1 here lol.  Have not had an experience with #2 race day.  Funny how on the two marathons I went to the bathroom twice, I was off my first marathon time by approx. 10 minutes.  Maybe if I'd stop going to the bathroom so much I'd get under the 5 hour mark.

And the BEST thing about running?  BEING OUTSIDE!  You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl.  Brings me right back to when I was a kiddo living in the country.  LOVE IT!

Photo Challenge - The Sun

I'm linking up with Our Reflection blog today for their Photo Challenge - The Sun.

Our Reflection Photo Challenge

The picture I'm posting is one that is really cool to me.  We had a bunch of storms coming through the area.  I looked outside at one point and there was this weird parting of the clouds.  To me, it looked like God was shining down through a hole but it was the sun trying to break through.  So I ran outside like a crazy person and snapped this picture.

Today I have officially lost 30lbs!

Wow, such a moment for me!  My goal wasn't even to get to 30lbs but if I can keep going, great!  I started out at 143lbs almost 2 years ago and am now 113lbs.  Sounds like a long time but I definitely had some hiccups along the way (i.e. dang candy dishes at work! lol).

At 143lbs:

Here's a pic of me at 114 (I'm 113 now tho lol):

So its a great day!

I'm not comfortable yet explaining on my blog how I lost the weight because people can't believe their ears or are super critical/judgmental.  Maybe someday I will on this blog but not today.

Its another What I Wore Wednesday blog!  Linking up with The Pleated Poppy for WIWW.
I'm going to post what I wore today and yesterday (because I really liked my outfit yesterday lol).

Here's my outfit for today.  Looks way better in person.

Top:  Don't know where I got it.  This is only the 2nd time I've worn it and its pretty old.  I bought it when I wasn't skinny enough to fit into it.  Glad I kept it.  Its almost like a top people wear in China/Japan.

Skirt:  Kohls

Necklace:  Just Jewelry

Shoes:  Piperlime - I think they were pretty pricey (pricey = over $30 haha)

Side view - Ties in the back and the skirt is super cute.  It is longer in the back and is ruffly.

Necklace - looks like two but its really one connected.  I love it!

Shoes - Maybe 4 or 5 inch heels.  They're also a bit large on me so I can't really walk in them for long or they'll come off.  But hey, they look fab!

Yesterday's outfit

Top:  Kohls

Pants:  Kohls (Apt 9)

Belt:  Probably came with some pants from Kohls

Necklaces:  Just Jewelry

Here is a random picture I'm throwing in.  I thought it was SO cool.  So did the news networks.  Think they might have used it on their broadcast.  Anyways, we had a bunch of storms yesterday and this was a moment in between the storms.  I looked outside and it looked like God had opened up the sky!  It was nuts.  So I ran out and took a picture.
